ROLL OVAIT Kid's Self Defence and Situational Awareness - Group Program

OVAIT facilitates a Self Defence and Situational Awareness Group program for children and young people aged 5 to 13 years of age, titled ROLL OVAIT.

The techniques are based on Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and the principles of leverage, timing, and energy efficiency, meaning anyone can do them regardless of age or athletic ability.

The program is facilitated by both female and male facilitators with support from our junior facilitators.

Beyond the physical techniques, the program reinforces situational awareness, risk assessment, and verbal and psychological strategies children and young people can use to set boundaries and feel safe.

The group setting is a fun and safe environment recoginising that children learn best through play.

Kid's Self Defense and Situational Awareness - FAQs

What is Braziilan Jiu-Jitsu and why is it a good choice for self defence for my child?

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a martial art that focuses on grappling and ground fighting. It was developed in Brazil in the early 20th century and has become popular around the world.

It is an effective martial art for self-defence situations, as the techniques and principles of BJJ focus on control and leverage, allowing a smaller, weaker person to defend themselves against a larger, stronger attacker.

It is a great workout that can improve your child's physical fitness, flexibility, and strength. The training involves full-body movements, which can help to burn calories, build muscle, and improve cardiovascular endurance.

What will my child learn in self defence classes?

Your child will develop a range of personal and technical skills that will benefit them both on and off the mat. Our classes focus on building confidence, coordination, discipline, fitness, teamwork, and social skills. Through consistent practice, your child will also develop a deeper understanding of body mechanics and how to apply leverage to gain an advantage over opponents, which can be applied in self-defence situations or in other areas of their lives.

Is self defence safe for my child?

We prioritise safety above all else and provide a fun and supervised environment for your child to learn and grow. Our coaches have received first aid training and are experienced in teaching BJJ to children. We take all necessary precautions to minimise the risk of injury during training, and we encourage open communication with both our students and parents to ensure any concerns are addressed promptly and appropriately.

What should my child wear and bring to self defence class?

Your child should wear shorts or leggings and a t-shirt or a rash guard. Training shorts without metal zippers/buttons or pockets are required.

How much are the classes, when is payment due and how do I make payment?

The program is $25 a week for both classes or $15 per session with payment due at the start of the session by EFTPOS or cash (if paying cash, please bring exact money). BUT the first class is always FREE! Come and try the program at no cost.

Where and when is the program held?

The classes are held on a Monday and Wednesday from 4.30pm to 5.15pm at our office in the Bendigo CBD. You child can attend one or both classes.
